Creation Cycle: Second Quarter

The second quarter of the creation cycle holds the first quarter moon, waxing quarter, and waxing full moon. This is a time of explosive action. The seed that has been nurtured breaks open, sending out roots and shoots, establishing itself, anchoring, grounding, and expanding. Growth is here, now, happening. Uncontainable. A time of expansive aliveness. Time to work hard, invest in your intentions, bring the formless into form. After a time of going inwards, waiting, waiting, waiting, we explode outwards with vitality and growth.

First Quarter

The first quarter moon holds the energy of the Creator Destroyer, the grounded fire. It is time to take action. To break open the seed, to unfurl the new shoot. Depending on your intention, action might look like deliberately taking time to rest, or to stop engaging in a particular thought pattern, or to create art, or to exercise, or to practice a particular skill, or have a difficult conversation. It is time to act, to do, to create. To destroy and create at the same time. To break a seed pod, while creating roots and shoots. To end that which has constrained you and to create what is ready to grow.

New shoots extend roots downwards as much as the green shoot extends upwards. This is grounded fire. Sourcing the action by rooting down. Tender little roots that have the power to break rock. Rooting down into the earth, into your space in nature, rooting down into your ancient lineage. Allowing the gift that you are here to embody be sourced from something greater than yourself. You can’t take the action of the embodied gift without being rooted.

Here is where we begin to put all of the pieces together to live out our intentions. We have our intentions, the images and words from the beginning of the year. We have something to root into, to be sourced by, to be held and fed by, in the earth and our lineage. We have a gift to embody, to flesh out, that moves into and through our intentions, giving them form. Bringing the formless into form.

Waxing Quarter

This is the season of unrestrained growth. The roots are established, the leaves unfurled, drinking up the nourishment of the earth and basking in the light of the sun. There is rapid unfurling, plants growing right before our eyes. Everything is alive with the juicy vibrancy of spring. There is a feeling of delicious creation, all of nature engaging in an explosion of life.

Here we put action to our intentions. It is time to bring them into actuality. It is the day in, day out, effort of hard work. Committing to yourself and keeping your commitments. It is the solidness of industriousness. You do it, not just talk about it, or dream about it. Now. Now is the time to make it happen. Get concrete in your commitments and action steps. Intentions are guide marks, points on a compass that show us which way to face. Action steps are picking up your feet, one after the other, taking steps in the direction you want to go. Actions are concrete, objective, measurable. You can make a list and check off whether you did it or not. This is growth in action.

Waxing Full

In all of the hard work, don’t forget to breathe. Savor and enjoy the process of creation. It’s not worth it if you are too spent to enjoy the process. It’s not just about an outcome. That’s boring. Plants flaunt their colorful flowers, wooing the bees. They are showy and playful in their creation process. There is beauty and lightness and flow, along with the stability and strength of bringing an intention into form.

Play with your work. What would breathe life into your actions? As you work hard, turning ideas into reality, what would make it enjoyable? Fun? Savor the process of creation.
